Here are the basic steps for relatively easy independent book publishing.

1. Pick a topic and title which should appeal to potential purchasers.
2. Write and format the pages using Microsoft Word, or pay a pro to format it for you.
3. Read it dozens of times to find and fix errors.
4. Have it professionally edited.
5. Convert the pages into a PDF. Have one or more generations of proofs printed for correcting by yourself and your editor(s). NOTE: A PDF will reveal more errors than a Word document.
6. Get a cover designed.
7. Decide on prices.
8. Upload your interior and cover files to eBookIt.com for e-book distribution. (It's less expensive if you submit a Word file than a PDF.) or
9. Upload your interior and cover files to KDP.Amzon.com for e-book distribution. or
10. Upload your interior and cover PDF files to CreateSpace for printing and distribution of p-books. CreateSpace also provides free cover templates which can be customized for your books. or
11. Upload your interior and cover PDF files to Lightning Source for printing and distribution of p-books
12. Promote. Promote. Promote.
